Founder's Backstory
Get your reading glasses...
I'm originally from El Paso, Tx but I'm a chronic mover and have lived in most Texas cities plus spent some time in Arizona. I grew up with mainly family dogs and cats, but I was always drawn to all kinds of animals. I loved feeding strays in the neighborhood and reading to my grandma's bird. I would sneak in a stray cat at night sometimes since there was a hole in my window screen, but don't tell my mom about that! My obsession with animals only continued to grow and I became an avid stuffed animal collector.
As I got older, I kept insisting that my parents allow us to have a dog and/or a cat. We finally got both and later on, another dog. I continued to feed the stray cats and one of them (MooMoo) became one of my regulars. She had kittens twice and it was the most exciting thing for me to see all these babies grow up in our backyard before we gave them away to their forever homes.
So at this point you probably thought...she's going to become a veterinarian or something related to that. Nope! Although that was the most common suggestion I would receive when I was deciding on what to study at the university, I could not imagine myself doing surgeries on animals and seeing them very sick or abused. I simply don't have the stomach to see blood or guts so I decided that being a vet was not for me. I was torn on this because I really wanted to do something with animals but it felt like that was the only career path at the time. At least one that would be financially viable for me to make a living on long term.
So why not start a pet company and explore the pet industry? Well...that wasn't really a concept that existed or was talked about within my community at that time. Becoming an Entrepreneur was portrayed as something that was out of reach and extremely risky. Only certain type of people are able to attain that level of success & financial freedom and it wasn't something that happened to people like "us". Ok then, off to school I go and get a STEM degree like everyone else because that's the most respectable and safest thing to do....
After years of studying and working crazy hours, I got my degree in Electrical Engineering. There were so many times that I wanted to give up and it felt like I'd never finish. But the day finally came and I landed a job at a well known semiconductor company after completing an internship with them. I couldn't believe I was finally going to have a salary job with benefits and all the adult stuff! I was able to transfer to headquarters in Dallas and got to work with some talented people.
Everything was great! I had my grown up job, I was financially secure, I was learning a lot of skills at my job, I had money to travel, there were career opportunities available for me to grow further into the company, etc. But for some reason...I didn't feel fulfilled. This feeling haunted me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It was the most conflicting thing! I had everything I thought I wanted and worked so hard to get but yet, I felt like something was missing. How?? It was hard to explain this feeling to others because the responses I got were, 'what more do you want', 'why would you leave everything you worked so hard for', or 'every one dreams of having what you have and you're throwing it away like that'?
After much reflection and attending a business conference (mainly for entrepreneurs), I realized that this was the path for me and I wanted to get into the pet industry. There are many ways to work with animals besides becoming a veterinarian. Meeting with other entrepreneurs showed me this and all I needed to do was just be creative about it. I knew it was going to be hard and I'd have to give up a lot to build a company. But that's the thing, I'm addicted to personal development and I love challenges. I have a drive that pushes me every day to do more and get better. I had to believe that even though I had no clue on how to start or manage a business, that I would figure it out.
So here we are. Paw Nexo was born and we're just getting started 🔥
My Niños
These are my 7 kids =^._.^= My three oldest are 14 years old (as of 2025). I need to add 'expert cat hider' to my skills because you don't know how hard it was to hide all of them for years at apartments!

Zebracakes
Breed : Marble Bengal Mix
Hometown : The streets of San Elizario, Tx
This guy was the biggest pain in the ass to raise. He used to get into the trashcan, dart into the fridge, rip up the loaf of bread, scream at 5am for no reason, steal your pizza....the list goes on. His farts were freakin lethal when he was little too. Not sure if it's because he was raised on Hot Cheetos while he lived on the streets or what but you had to leave the apartment from how bad it was. He was, and still is, the biggest bully of the crew.
With much love, patience, finding weird places to hide the bread and yelling 'no' a million times...he finally came around. He's the curious one and always needs to supervise what you're doing. He can be very friendly and super needy when he wants to be. Otherwise, he's starting up fights or finding something new to play with. He likes going to the park and visiting his abuelita.

Sassy
Breed : Tuxedo Mix
Hometown : The streets of Tucson, Az
I always wanted a black cat and she was given to me around Halloween time. I took it as a sign to keep her. She was the hardest to integrate into the crew because the rest of the cats didn't like her for some reason. She showed them up when she got bigger though and now they're scared to mess with her.
Sassy is....well sassy. She has a diva walk like she was a model in her past life and likes to be hyped. She was the easiest to raise and the most well mannered. I'm not sure who gave her etiquette classes but it sure wasn't me. She is the kindest and sweetest cat but also a bit bipolar. She'll be happy one minute and the next she'll hiss at you while she's still purring. She hates vacuums and likes to lay on the floor like she's given up on life.

Ari
Breed : Shorthair, Orange Tabby
Hometown : El Paso, Tx
Ari is the friendliest of the crew. He'll become your BFF if you give him 1 pet. That's literally all it takes. He purrs very loudly 24/7 to a point that the decibel level is impressive. One look at him and his motor starts up. He loves to lay next to you or on you and having all the attention. But he doesn't like to be held for some reason.
Don't let his friendliness fool you though. He is the most annoying and neediest. He likes to sit in weird corners and meow usually at 2am or whenever you're on a work call. You can't leave any paper products out because he will eat them. From receipt paper to napkins...he loves them all. He also likes to steal your bottle caps and pens. When he's not bothering you or purring, he's usually hiding under the covers sleeping.

Zoë
Breed : Shorthair, Polydactyl, Brown Tabby
Hometown : El Paso, Tx
I forget I have Zoë sometimes. She never comes out unless it's super quiet. She spent most of her childhood hiding under the bed and in the closet. I'm not sure why she was always so paranoid and shy. She had the easiest life so maybe it was past life trauma.
I'm happy to say that she did some inner work and has finally built up her confidence to come out more. Now she's annoying since she's more vocal. She likes to play with her toys and will play fetch with you. She also has this habit of licking you like she's a dog. Overall, she's very sweet and will lay with you. When she's feeling bold, she'll walk up to you and yell at you to give her pets.

Winston
Breed : Shorthair, Polydactyl , Grey Tabby
Hometown : El Paso, Tx
This dude has such a weird meow. It's very deep and sometimes sounds like he's saying "garam" like garam masala. He has extra toes so his front paws look like mittens. The claws from his extra toes tap on the floor when he walks like he's wearing high heels. He's always tip tapping across the house. It's annoying when he decides to train for a marathon at 3am.
He is a very sweet guy and actually likes to be held like a baby. Well...for only like a minute but at least he lets you carry him. He is obsessed with plastic straws from the noise it makes to playing fetch with them. He knows it's not good for the environment but he wants them to bring them back. He is extremely scared of the vacuum and you'll find him hiding in weird spots when he sees it roll out. He likes to guilt trip you when you're packing for a trip and looks all sad in the suitcase.

Taji
Breed : Blue Point, Siamese, Tabby mix
Hometown : Houston, Tx
🐾🌈 4/2020
Normally kittens are super cute. But I have to say, Taji was the ugliest kitten I have ever seen. She grew out of it, luckily, as she got older. Taji was the definition of bipolar - she would be purring one second and the next she's hissing at you for no reason. She was very temperamental to say the least but oddly sweet when she wanted to be.
She hated my dad. I mean HATED more than anything in life. He couldn't be in the same room with her without her getting mad. It was the strangest thing. We never did figure out why she didn't like him. But he wasn't the only one...she didn't care for Zebracakes either. It took them a while to be ok with each other....and just OK. When she wasn't busy hating something or someone, she liked to steal my socks and bra inserts to chew on them. She had a thing for Q-tips too.
She passed in 2020 due to kidney failure. I wasn't able to go inside the vet office to be with her due to covid regulations at the time and I had to just hand her over. There was also a mix up at the vet office and I never did receive her ashes. This was one of the hardest goodbyes for me due to everything going on at that time and how this was handled. I'm just glad she's resting now and I hope she has fun haunting my dad 💗

Meiko
Breed : Calico, Tabby mix
Hometown : The streets of Houston, Tx
🐾🌈 3/2023
Meiko found me at my apartment complex in Houston one night when I was walking home. I heard little meows and she popped out of nowhere. She looked like she was barely a month or two and probably wandered off from her mom. I wanted to give her food but her teeth weren't fully grown in yet and she needed to be nursed still. I walked around outside to see if I could return her to her mom but I couldn't find her. I bought some formula and decided I would just take care of her until she was a little older. I was going to find her a home but ...that home was mine.
This little girl was fearless! She wasn't scared to fight Winston and Ari when I brought her in. It was the funniest thing to see this tiny, little kitten puff up and try to learn how to hiss at them. She couldn't even fully meow either and she sounded like a raptor. They didn't even want to fight her but she was just standing her ground. She quickly became part of the gang and would wrestle with them. She'd even climb the corners of doorways along the trimming and then just drop to run away at full speed. She was wild and adventurous. But she did enjoy her tanning sessions in the sun and she was usually at the window. The poor girl had resting bitch face and looked like she was always judging you. She probably was.
She passed also due to kidney failure (which I found out at this point that this is quite common for cats). I was fortunate to find a great vet office this time that handled her with great care and respect. I am forever grateful to them for letting me say goodbye to her 💗
